About
In Cognise, the goal is always for members to enjoy their learning and skill building. Ideally, it is fun too. The points, bonuses, and awards system is one way organisations can encourage members to engage, reach targets, and achieve intended learning outcomes.
Points, Bonuses, and Awards System
In config, System Admins can enable Gamification.
Achievements are based on the following:
Points for completions e.g., a Course completed and 50 points.
Reaching Goals - setting a target points total for a period e.g., 400pts in one year.
Award milestones e.g., 200 points achieved and the 200 Badge is issued.
Bonus points - automated on a milestone, or manually added.
Target Points
Target points is where the member is set a target value in a given period e.g. Earn 400 points in the period Jan1 to Dec 31. Admins can:
Chose to have this turned off - No Points targeting;
Set the same date range across the entire company and set target points; or
Set the target range to be user defined at each user's start date determines the start of their period and set target points [which is the same for all].
Points Allocation for Learning
Point values are setup at config are seen on all learning. Points are mainly allocated for completions. There is also an option for awarding points for failed. Someone might 'fail a course' but has put in decent effort.
On learning creation, the learning inherits the default value set in Config. At the learning the default value can be edited e.g., none, or a number representing the value for that learning only.
Events
An event completion can be selected, or points awarded per session attended.
If Event is chosen it means if the person attends 1 or multiple sessions of the same event they receive the allocated event point value, and once only.
If Per Session is set when a person is marked as attended they receive the session value for each session they attend. For example, if the Per Session is set to 20 points and the member attends 3 and is marked attended for each they will have earned 60 points.
Further, when Per Session is selected at each session admins can set a unique value. This might be useful if there are 2 sessions and the first is much shorter and the second is longer and you would like to issue more points for attending session 2. There is lots of flexibility π.
Awards
Each award is triggered on achieving a set points threshold known as a points milestone. When an award is gained, it will display to the member on their Dashboard and also under their profile in the Community. The award will display in the selected style with the label Award and the points representing that award. Below will be the date issued.
Award Styles
Awards come in three styles which one is chosen by admins for your company:
Medal [round]
Ribbon [hexagonal]
Shield
Award Colour
The primary colour of an award is dynamically generated. Defaults can be changed and set to any colour.
Description
Awards also have an editable Description field in config. This is not displayed on the award itself. This detail displayed to members in the 'About Awards' modal.
For example, the award might state Badge 1000 and the Description 'Awesome Award. See your manager to claim a coffee!'.
Bonuses
A bonus is an allocated amount of points - this can be triggered automatically, and also added manually. The purpose of a bonus is to act as an extrinsic incentive to complete more learning by rewarding the member and encouraging them to continue working toward an end target goal. Bonus points count toward the points goal in a target period.
Bonus Settings
For automatic, admins choose and configure one of the following:
Bonuses can be set by admins in config to automatically trigger at a points threshold e.g., the member has earned 300 points and they are automatically issued an additional 10 points as a bonus.
Bonus points can be set to automatically trigger at increments e.g., every 100 points earned automatically award a 10 point bonus.
Additionally, a bonus can also be added manually by an admin, or the member's manager.
